Screen Counts/Crowd Reports (March 31st-April 4th)
THE LAST SONG opens today. Should do solid with kids being out of school.
My theater is actually keeping CHLOE another week. I thought it would be gone for sure. And REMEMBER ME is still going to be playing so I may finally check that one out.

I'm expecting the two to be similar with admissions, so I think it'll fall short of the April record by a few million.

Is it really that similar to Watchmen ? If it is then I guess I wasn't to crazy about my mid-high 50's prediction. However there are quite a few differences between Clash and Watchmen. For one it has a PG-13 rating which allows it to appeal to a broader audience and the fact it's a much easier sell already tells you it's going to do alot better in the long run, but I wouldn't be suprised if it matched Watchmen's opening.

Releasing this early at 8 PM on Thursday was a very dumb idea. I am hearing awful things about it from my friends who simply couldn't resist to watch it in 3D! The wom will spread by morning that it is one horrendous flick, which might end up hurting the overall weekend take.

I thought it opened at 10pm?

Exactly how many theatres did they open it up at on Thursday ? I just looked on fandango and movietickets and there was only ONE theatre in my entire neighborhood that had a 10PM showing. Even so it's not like the awful responses to Transformers 2 stopped it from banking 5 days in a row. It's pretty much critic proof opening weekend.

I saw it last night at 8pm in 2D. Maybe 50 people in the theater. Crowd generally seemed to like it. It's hard to compare to other films because so few open at 8pm Thursday.

32% sort of puts a damper on 70+ expectations I think.

That 32% was already up to 41% later in the day yesterday.
Plus, we all know Fandango is not the best indicator of openings...

Well, it's good to note Iron Man made roughly 3.5 million from it's 10pm Thursday shows, only to go on to make 100 million for the weekend. Ofcourse, the Friday wasn't a holiday for it, so that will skew numbers a bit with Clash

According to THR Clash did about 4.2M from Thursday 8PM and midnight showings. It's a pretty solid number considering it matches both Star Trek's 4M and I'Ms 3.5M openings and it should defentially hit over 20M today, but I think 30M is a bit of a stretch at this point. Also have to remember ST and IM didn't open on a Good Friday.

Theater Report
WDIGM2- 12:00- sold out
HTTYD- 12:00 3d - sold out
The last song- 11:45- 21 tickets
Clash- 3d- 12:15- 20 tickets
HTTYD- 2d-11:30- 55 tickets
clash- 2d- 12:40- 31 tickets
1:30 WDIGM2- 95% full
1:55 Clash 2d- 33 tickers
I am thinking clash may be a night movie
We are going to interlock our 3:15 showing of WDIGM2 and our 2:45 showing of HTTYD 2d.
Any other reports.

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports (March 31st-April 4th)
Very interesting report and it looks like WDIGM2 should atleast do $25M for the weekend. Those are some pretty strong results this early in the afternoon and it will only pick up tonight since it's Friday and the date night effect will soon come into play. As for Clash I think it will pick up alot more once people get off of work. Teens and young adults seem to flock to movies more later in the evening than the afternoon.

WHY DID I GET MARRIED 2 should do decent since it's rare for an urban horror movie to get released .
And is WOM from the general public really going to be that bad for CLASH? I doubt it.

Clash's only serious concern, IMO, is word of how terrible the 3D is slipping into the mainstream consciousness, especially considering how hard WB has been selling the 3D! 3D! 3D! factor.

I wonder how The Greatest will perform in limited release. Or even how many theatres it's in.
It has considerable star power (Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan) and Brosnan and Mulligan have been pounding the press pavement for it, but this doesn't always translate into a strong opening.

Re: Screen Counts/Crowd Reports (March 31st-April 4th)
I believe it will do really poorly, which is unfortunate. A movie like this would have been better off with a wide release and from a bigger studio that had money to properly advertise it. It will probably have a PSA of around $3,000, which wouldn't be very good when it's in just a couple of theaters. I showed the trailer to a few of my co-workers and they've all thought it looked amazing. I believe it could have been a decent little hit. No less than an 18 Million gross, but it could have done over 30. And this would have increased awareness for its DVD release. Now it will go unseen.

Is anyone here planning on seeing any of the more limited release movies this weekend (GREENBERG, CHLOE, THE RUNAWAYS, THE GREATEST, etc...)? With so many film fans here I'm surprised we don't see many crowd reports for smaller films. It's all of the big, mainstream event films that people talk about.

Because the small indie films just kind of do their thing and then go away. There's not much excitement about them, unless they break out.

If only Ben Stiller released the goddamn Kraken in Greenberg...
